Photographer Peter Tarpgaard

A couple of years ago Klas and I went to Portugal on a surf trip. On that trip we met Peter, Loella his girlfriend and their dog Nikita. We started chatting about the surf and 5 minutes later we sat down and had a coffee, made in the back of their "home made" campervan. Peter is a surfer and a life-loving, living-in-the-moment kind of guy. We had a lot in common, we don't like to sit in an office all day long and we love traveling and exploring. Unfortunately we haven't met since that trip, even though they live a couple of hours drive from us. We have discussed about having Peter shoot our catalogue in the future and everytime I see more of his photos I need to make sure he does.:-) I love the play with light in his pictures and the great balance he has in a photo.
Well, here are some awesome pics: Enjoy and if you want to see more or give Peter a call here is his website. Peter works as a wedding photographer in the summer and takes the most amazing wedding pictures!

Beautiful Nature

Here are some great pictures of striped ice blocks.
Oyvind Tangen, a norwegian sailor was aboard a reasearch vessel in the Antarctic when he photographed the unusual striped ice blocks that floated in the water.

Fixed Gear Bike

Since its spring here in Gothenburg and the people are starting to come out of their winter hibernation I want to share some really nice pictures of fixed gear bikes with you. Today we met some friends down town and Gothenburg was full of people on their bikes and I saw some fixed gear bikes. I have for a while thought that they look really cool, but they seem a bit scary to ride, since you can't really break....
So whats a fixed gear bike?
A fixed gear bike is a bicycle that has no freewheel, that means it can't coast-the pedals are always in motion when the bicycle is moving. The sprocket is screwed directly onto the hub. When the rear wheel turns, the pedals turn in the same direction. The cyclist stops without using a brake, by resisting the rotation of the cranks, and also to ride in reverse.

Biking is both good for nature and for you body so why not ride on one in style:-)
(Some of the pictures are not of F.G. bikes but the pictures are nice so I thought I'll share them with you anyways)

The Concept

Previously I told you about the background and the reason why Sinaia started and now I'm going to tell you about the concept. We didn't want to make yet another clothing brand, there are way too many out there already, both good and bad ones. We wanted to create a brand with a concept, and reason of being, not just pretty clothes that you use one season and toss away because they run out of fashion. Here is the description:

"Sinaia is sophisticated and engineered sportswear clothes for urban men and women on the go. Sinaia is activewear and sportswear combined in the same garment. The collection keeps its sports identity through fabrics, trims, finishes and practicality but colors and styling push it onto the streets. The functional driven design means that nothing is there for show, all details and seams have a function. Sinaia designs a series of refined multifunctional styles that will fulfil your needs when travelling, being active and in your busy everyday life. The garments have distinctive and forward looking designs but don't follow fashion trends, which means you can use them season after season till they fall apart."

Basically we want to make technical, versatile and timeless clothes without compromising on either style or perfomance. The styles should work as good when you bike to work as on a trip to New York. The advantage of having 2 styles in 1 will probably make your life easier when travelling, with less clothing to carry with you.

Women's 3layer shell jacket: Sarek Jacket. Clean design that works both on the slopes and waiting for the buss a rainy day in town.

All jackets come with a detachable carry on strap. Imagine when you go christmas shopping and you have your hands full of bags, you get overheated and need to carry your jacket too. Here you just let it hang on you back as a backpack. Practical! Or when you stand in line at the skilift and its a nice hot day in May. You don't want to hold your jacket in your hand.... Just let it hang on your back.

This is one of the many practical solution on all Sinaia garments.

SINAIA: The story

Well, I thought ill share some background information with you, I assume you don't know much about Sinaia, How it started and why it started so here is the STORY:

From 1998 to 2003 I was part of the Swedish National Team of Military Pentathlon. (military pentathlon-5 events: shooting, obstacle running, obstacle swimming, precition throwing and 4km cross country running) It is a military sport but Sweden is one of the few countries that allow civilians to compete in the national team. My twin sister and I were students at that time and the season started in May and ended usually in August-September. All we did was training and competing. The usual training was 2-3 times a day and 5-6 competitions during the season, all from Swedish Championship to World Championship. That means a hole lot of travelling... We basically lived in our big trunks, came home from a competition, washed the clothing and put it back in the trunk. Since we were always on the go, we had to pack training gear and everydag clothing. We realised it was way to much stuff to be carried all the time so we started to look on the market for clothing that was both stylish and functional, that we could use while being active. We didn't find any and thats when the idea for Sinaia started. I was studying to become a fashion designer at that time so designing was no problem:-) After college I worked at several activewear brands and when the time was right and I had some experience from the industry Sinaia was started-2007.

Multifunctionality is the concept of Sinaia. 2 garments in 1 that you can use both in nature and in the city. You dont have to compromise style or performance

Here are some picture from the good old pentathlon times:

First picture: My twin Carmen and I in China at the World Championship.

Second picture: Me-Shooting

Third picture: Me-Presition throwing

1st pic: Carmen, Christina and I in China with our bronz medals at the World Championship
